Coaches

The crew

Four coaches, one approach: learn the basics properly, progress steadily, and enjoy it enough to come back on Thursday.

A lifter in a deep back squat with a loaded barbell in a dark gym

Danny Okafor

Head of strength

Danny competed in powerlifting for six years before deciding the best part was teaching other people to lift. He wrote our six week strength blocks and runs Barbell Basics, where most members take their first ever squat.

He is famously patient with nervous beginners and famously strict about bracing.

  • Powerlifting
  • Beginner barbell
  • Competition prep
  • Programming

“Strong is a skill. Anyone can learn it if you give them good reps.”

Priya Nair

Yoga lead

Priya has taught yoga in Manchester for nine years, from church halls in Levenshulme to our studio upstairs. Her classes are strong, unfussy and full of options for people who cannot touch their toes yet.

She leads Vinyasa Flow, Slow Flow and Yin & Restore, and runs our four week Yoga for Lifters course every spring.

  • Vinyasa
  • Yin
  • Breathwork
  • Yoga for lifters

“You do not need to be flexible to start. That is what the practice is for.”

A man doing a controlled mobility crawl on a mat in an industrial space

Tom Brennan

Mobility coach

Tom played rugby league until a knee injury sent him into a long rehab, which is where he fell for mobility work. He spent the next decade helping desk workers, runners and ex players get their range back.

Mobility Lab is his class. Expect slow, controlled work and an unreasonable amount of enthusiasm for ankles.

  • Joint mobility
  • Return to training
  • Runners
  • Desk posture

“Range you can control is range you get to keep.”

A woman training with battle ropes in a bright gym

Megan Lowe

PT and conditioning

Megan coaches our Engine and Kettlebell Strong classes and has the busiest personal training diary in the building. She works with complete beginners, busy parents and people training for their first fitness race.

She also leads our return to exercise sessions for new mums, built around strength rather than shrinking.

  • Personal training
  • Kettlebells
  • Conditioning
  • Pre and postnatal

“Turn up, do the work, go home feeling better than you arrived.”
