Starmark Junior privacy policy

Starmark Junior is a learning app for children aged 4 to 11. It is built so that we do not collect personal information about children at all. There are no adverts, no analytics, no tracking, no accounts and no chat. This page explains, in plain words, what the app keeps and the little we handle.

Who we are

Starmark Junior is made by TFY Apps, the trading name of TFYDJC Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17532068, registered office 198 West End Lane, London NW6 1SG. We are the data controller for the information described here. Contact us about privacy at info@tfyapps.com.

What stays on your phone or tablet

When you add a child, the app asks for their first name, their age and an animal buddy. It uses the name to greet them and the age to choose the right lessons and look. These details, together with each child's progress, stars, stickers, levels, streaks, quiz and speed run scores, and the sound and font settings, are saved only on your device. We never receive them, and nobody else does either. Deleting the app deletes them.

The app does not use the microphone, camera, location, contacts or photos, and does not ask for permission to. Its fonts are built into the app, so nothing is downloaded while your child learns.

Subscriptions

The first chapter at each age in every subject is free. The rest is unlocked with a subscription that a parent or carer buys in the Grown-ups area, which is behind a grown-up check. Apple's App Store or Google Play take the payment and handle your payment details under their own privacy policies; we never see your card details, name or email address.

To know whether the subscription is active, the app uses RevenueCat, Inc., a company in the United States that works for us as a service provider. The app gives RevenueCat a random identifier created on your device (not your name, your child's name or your email), along with the purchase records from Apple or Google and basic technical details such as the app version, the type of device and its operating system, and your country. RevenueCat uses these only to manage the subscription for us. Nothing about your child or their learning is sent to RevenueCat. We rely on this to provide the subscription you bought (performance of a contract).

Our website and server

The app itself never sends anything to our server. Our server only hears from you if you open one of our web pages (such as this policy, the terms or the support page). Like any web server, it records the internet address of the device, the time, the page requested and the browser type, so we can keep the service secure and working, which is in our legitimate interest. These logs are deleted after 14 days. The Starmark Junior pages on our website set no cookies, load no analytics and load nothing from other websites.

Our server is hosted by Amazon Web Services in its Stockholm data centre in Sweden, as our service provider.

If you email us

If you email us, we use your email address and message to reply and to help you, which is in our legitimate interest and yours. We delete the conversation once it is no longer needed.

Who we share information with

Only the service providers named above (RevenueCat and Amazon Web Services), who work for us under contract, and Apple or Google, who handle purchases as controllers in their own right. We never sell information and never share it with advertisers or data brokers.

Information outside the UK

RevenueCat is in the United States, so the subscription details described above are transferred outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on the safeguards UK law provides for such transfers, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum. Our server in Sweden is covered by the UK's adequacy regulations for the European Economic Area.

How long we keep things

Children

Starmark Junior is made for children, and we designed it to follow the UK Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children's Code). Settings are high privacy by default. There is no profiling, no adverts, no tracking, no chat, no sharing and no nudges to buy: purchases, links and settings sit in the Grown-ups area behind a grown-up check. A child's name and age never leave the device. If you are a parent or carer and think your child has sent us personal information, contact us at info@tfyapps.com and we will delete it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of personal information we hold about you or your child, and ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or stop using it. Email info@tfyapps.com. Because we do not hold names, accounts or progress, we usually hold nothing that identifies you, and we will tell you if so. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update this page and the date at the top, and if a change affects what the app does with information we will update this page before that version of the app is released.
