Starmark privacy policy
Starmark is built so that we hardly need any personal information at all. There are no adverts, no analytics, no tracking and no accounts. This page explains the little we do handle.
Who we are
Starmark is made by TFY Apps, the trading name of TFYDJC Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17532068, registered office 198 West End Lane, London NW6 1SG. We are the data controller for the information described here. Contact us about privacy at info@tfyapps.com.
What stays on your phone
The subjects you choose, your progress, your confidence ratings, quiz scores and revision streak are saved only on your phone or tablet. We never receive them. Deleting the app deletes them.
Subscriptions
Starmark is sold as a subscription through Apple's App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google take the payment and handle your payment details under their own privacy policies; we never see your card details, name or email address.
To know whether your subscription is active, the app uses RevenueCat, Inc., a company in the United States that works for us as a service provider. The app gives RevenueCat a random identifier created on your device (not your name or email), along with the purchase records from Apple or Google and basic technical details such as the app version, the type of device and its operating system, and your country. RevenueCat uses these only to manage your subscription for us. Because RevenueCat is in the United States, this information is transferred outside the UK. We rely on this to provide the subscription you bought (performance of a contract).
Report a mistake
If you use Report a mistake, we receive what you type, what kind of mistake you chose, which board, subject and topic it is about, the app version, and whether you used the app or the website. There is no name, account or device identifier. We automatically remove anything that looks like an email address or phone number, but please do not include personal details. We use reports only to check and correct the content, which is in our legitimate interest and yours. Reports are stored on our server and deleted within 12 months.
Our website and server
Our server only hears from the app when you send a mistake report or open one of our web pages (such as this one, the support page or the terms). Like any web server, it records the internet address of the device, the time, the page or request and the browser or app type, so we can keep the service secure and working. These logs are deleted after 14 days. The Starmark pages on our website (this policy, the terms and the support page) set no cookies, load no analytics and load nothing from other websites.
Our server is hosted by Amazon Web Services in its Stockholm data centre in Sweden, as our service provider.
If you email us
If you email us, we use your email address and message to reply and to help you, and we delete the conversation once it is no longer needed.
Who we share information with
Only the service providers named above (RevenueCat and Amazon Web Services), who work for us under contract, and Apple or Google for purchases. We never sell information and never share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Children and young people
Starmark is a revision app for students, many of whom are under 18. It is designed so that we do not need to collect personal information from anyone: there are no accounts, no adverts and no tracking, and settings are private by default. If you are under 18, ask a parent or carer before buying a subscription. If you are a parent or carer and think your child has sent us personal information, contact us at info@tfyapps.com and we will delete it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or stop using it. Email info@tfyapps.com. Because we do not hold names or accounts, we may not be able to tell which reports or records are yours, and we will tell you if so. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update this page and the date at the top.
