Evenhand privacy policy
Evenhand is an app for pupils aged 11 to 16. It collects no personal information at all: there are no accounts, no adverts, no analytics and no tracking, and it works fully offline. This page explains the details.
Who we are
Evenhand is made by TFY Apps, the trading name of TFYDJC Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17532068, registered office 198 West End Lane, London NW6 1SG. We are the data controller for the information described here. Contact us about privacy at info@tfyapps.com.
What stays on your device
To remember your progress, Evenhand saves your completed lessons, quiz, game and exam question scores, flashcard schedule, day streak, whether Evenhand Plus is unlocked and your light or dark theme choice in the app's own storage on your device. This information never leaves your device and we cannot see it. You can delete it at any time with More, then Reset progress, or by deleting the app.
Evenhand does not ask for your name, email address, age or location, and does not use the camera, microphone, contacts or photos. It sends and receives nothing over the internet, and the Android version does not even ask for permission to use the internet.
Links to sources
Facts in Evenhand show the official source they came from, such as the Office for National Statistics. If you choose to open a source, a check for parents and carers appears first, and the website then opens outside Evenhand. Websites you visit have their own privacy policies.
Evenhand Plus
Lessons, debates and Spot the bias are free. If a parent or carer buys Evenhand Plus (behind the same parental check), Apple's App Store or Google Play take the payment and handle the payment details under their own privacy policies. We never receive your card details, name or email address. The purchase record Apple or Google keep is used only to unlock Plus on your devices.
Our website and server
The app never contacts our server. Our server only hears from you if you open one of our web pages (such as this policy or the support page). Like any web server, it records the internet address of the device, the time, the page requested and the browser type, so we can keep the service secure and working, which is in our legitimate interest. These logs are deleted after 14 days. The Evenhand pages on our website set no cookies, load no analytics and load nothing from other websites.
Our server is hosted by Amazon Web Services in its Stockholm data centre in Sweden, as our service provider. Sweden is covered by the UK's adequacy regulations, so no other safeguards are needed.
If you email us
If you email us, for example to report a fact you think is wrong, we use your email address and message to reply and to help you, which is in our legitimate interest and yours. We delete the conversation once it is no longer needed.
Who we share information with
Nobody, apart from Amazon Web Services, which runs our server for us, and Apple or Google for purchases. We never sell information and never share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Children and young people
Evenhand is made for pupils aged 11 to 16, and we designed it to follow the UK Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children's Code): high privacy by default, no profiling, no data sharing, no nudge techniques, no chat and no content from other users. Purchases and links to outside websites sit behind a check for parents and carers. If you are a parent or carer and think your child has emailed us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or stop using it. From the app itself we hold nothing about you; if you have emailed us, we hold that email. Contact info@tfyapps.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update this page and the date at the top, and if a change affects what the app does with information we will update this page before that version of the app is released.
